Kosair Children's Hospital Home & BMW Raffle

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are tickets?
Tickets are $100 each.

Who do I make a check out to?
Kosair Children’s Hospital
or
Children’s Hospital Foundation

If I win the BMW, am I still eligible to win the home?
Yes.  The BMW will be drawn first, then the winner will be returned to the hopper for the final drawing for the house.

Do I have to be present to win?
No, you do not have to be present to win or have your ticket confirmation with you. Winners will be announced by name, not ticket number.

How will I be notified if I win?
Winners will be shared by all of our media partners and listed on our website at HelpKosairChildrensHospital.com.

In addition to an attempt to contact the winner by phone the day of the drawing, each winner will be notified in writing in a Winner Notification Agreement, which will be sent by certified mail, return receipt U.S. mail to the address provided by that winner at the time of ticket reservation. Each winner will have seven days from the date of his/her receipt of the Winner Notification Agreement to accept the prize by executing and returning the Winner Notification Agreement and accepting the prize “as is.”

Is the raffle ticket tax deductible?
Because you are paying for a chance in a charitable raffle, Home and BMW Raffle tickets are NOT tax deductible. The IRS has adopted the position that the $100 ticket price is not deductible as a charitable donation for federal income tax purposes.

How do I pay the taxes on the house or BMW if I win it?

The IRS has adopted the position that the $100 ticket price is not deductible as a charitable donation for Federal income tax purposes.  The IRS requires that taxes on prizes valued greater than $5,000 must be paid upon acceptance and before the Children’s Hospital Foundation may deliver the prize to the winner. Winners are encouraged to consult a tax professional. The taxes on the home or BMW and cash are the responsibility of the winner. The IRS requires the Children’s Hospital Foundation to collect the taxes before the transfer of property. Winners will be issued 1099s for the fair market or appraised value of the prizes they win.  The winner should consult with a CPA as to specifics.

How much of the proceeds actually go to Kosair Children’s Hospital?

All of the proceeds go directly to Kosair Children’s Hospital.

Do I have to keep the house for a certain amount of time?
No, you do not have to keep the house for any length of time. Once the home is legally transferred to the winner, a process that usually takes 60 to 90 days, the home is yours to keep or sell.

Who is eligible to participate?
Anyone who is a U.S. resident and 18 years of age or older can participate and win either prize. Employees of the Children’s Hospital Foundation and their immediate families are not eligible to participate.
