Telecardiology Program

With cell phones, computers and other high-tech communication devices, families and friends can have heart-to-heart conversations at any time, no matter where they live. Similarly, physicians from across Kentucky and Southern Indiana have access to heart-related advice and diagnosis for their pediatric patients through the telemedicine program at Kosair Children's Hospital.

Physicians at other hospitals can perform echocardiograms for patients who may have suspected heart-related problems and transmit the images to pediatric specialists at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, Ky., using high-speed phone lines.

Kosair Children's Hospital was the first hospital in the U.S. to establish a telemedicine program for pediatric cardiology. In addition to Norton Women's and Kosair Children's Hospital and University of Louisville Hospital, telemedicine sites include, 27 local and regional hospitals across Kentucky and southern Indiana.
