Pediatric transport team

The "Just for Kids" Transport Team plays an important role in ensuring children and youth from across Kentucky, neighboring states and even the nation have access to the pediatric medical expertise and services offered at Kosair Children's Hospital. The team uses specially equipped mobile intensive care units, an airplane and a helicopter to provide transportation for young patients in need of sophisticated, sometimes life-sustaining, emergency care.

At Kosair Children's Hospital, we recognize that children are not small adults and must be cared for differently. The transport team staff members are professionals trained in and dedicated to working with ill or injured children. They provide the specialized care children require during transport. The "Just for Kids" Transport Team is made up of intensive care nurses, respiratory therapists and emergency medical technicians.

More than 60 percent of the babies in the Kosair Children's Hospital neonatal intensive care unit are brought there by the transport team. More premature babies are surviving at smaller birth weights, and other hospitals in the region may not be as equipped to care for the special needs of these tiny babies. Many children admitted to the "Just for Kids" Critical Care Center also rely on the transport team to bring them to Kosair Children's Hospital for specialized care.
